Training

Expedition First Aid

Experienced expedition first aid instructors use practical, hands-on training to provide emphasis on being self-reliant, improvisation with the kit that you have, and dealing competently with both life-threatening and run-of-the-mill situations in locations where evacuation may be protracted. This remote medical course, as the name suggests, is focused on the needs of those who work or travel away from help where they feel the core skills gained in outdoor first aid or workplace based courses will be insufficient for the situation they are in.

Hostile Environment Awareness Training (HEAT)

Course contents:

  • Threat Risk Assessment and Mitigation
  • First Aid Training
  • Kidnap and Hostage
  • Vehicle Safety and Security
  • Landmine and IED’s
  • Weapon Familiarisation
  • Navigation Techniques
  • Radio and Voice Communications
  • Conflict Management

Strategic Leadership

Course content:

  • Understand the key elements and concepts around strategy and leadership
  • Have tested approaches to strategy and leadership as they apply to relevant examples in BGS
  • Have identified actions to take forward for further individual development

Value of open data: A geoscience perspective

Encouraging the release of data as ‘open data’ is one measure that would remove barriers to access, increase use and facilitate downstream data innovation. Using examples from firstly the non-geoscience and then geoscience sectors, this paper outlines three factors that can lead to a successful open data programme.

How semantic technology makes geodata more discoverable, more useful and more valuable

Baseline geodata, geology, geochemistry and geophysics, are essential in mineral exploration. Regional-scalegeodata acquisition, airborne geophysical surveying, orlithogeochemical sampling, is an expensive and time-consuming process. Geodata will continue to grow inimportance in the future as exploratists on managersand geologists will increasingly have to look in areaswhere deposits are concealed. However, while the collection of this geodata is important, even more important is to understand and extract maximum value from this data.

Unconventional Gas Reservoir Productivity in Australian Proterozoic Rocks — Studies From the McArthur, Beetaloo, Mount Isa and Amadeus

A large amount of available exploration data is readily available for many Proterozoic areas in Australia. The data ranges from seismic …

Reserves estimation and influences on coal seam gas productivity in eastern australian basins

SRK Consulting has undertaken many unconventional gas estimation projects in Australia plus China, USA, Canada, Botswana and South Africa. Our experience with projects indicates many potential pit falls in the estimation of both Resources and Reserves can lead to either overstating or underestimating potential.
